In Week 46, we reached a key milestone in the LIFE CLOOVER2 project.
GCR Group has delivered the first batch of r-HDPE, a new raw material, to REYDE. This material was obtained from the recycling of the same industrial drums (blue for food use and green for non-food use) manufactured by REYDE, after being used and reused four times by AGROFRESH and its customers.
This achievement marks a decisive step forward:
We have successfully closed the entire industrial drum cycle, transforming waste into a valuable resource that returns to the production process as a high-quality plastic recycling.
Thanks to this circular-economy process, the material is reintegrated into the production chain as a high-quality raw material, reducing waste generation, optimising resource use, and delivering a positive environmental impact.
This achievement not only enhances the sustainability of our operations but also demonstrates that the innovation and responsibility shown by our partners lead to more efficient and environmentally considerate solutions.
We reduce dependence on 100% virgin plastic and demonstrate that circularity in the agri-food industry is not an aspiration, it is a tangible practice and that the transition towards more sustainable models can deliver an immediate impact in reducing environmental footprint.
This progress confirms that a truly circular economy applied to plastics is entirely achievable when all actors across the value chain — from producers and processors to distributors, end users and waste managers — work in a coordinated and aligned manner.
